Setting Up A New Business

On Thursday, February 29, 2024, the Entrepreneurship Council hosted a presentation on Setting Up A New Business: Accounting, Tax, and Legal Steps.  The speaker was Cameron A. Metcalf CPA, J.D. of Metcalf & Company, LLC located in Dothan, Alabama.  The event was held at the Dothan Area Chamber of Commerce and was sponsored by Computer Printing Etc., The Dothan Area Chamber of Commerce, SmartBank, and The Sorrell College of Business.

Mr. Metcalf touched on the importance of deciding early what type of business entity you want your business to be and the differences.  He then touched on getting your EIN number and where to go to get it.  Once you have your EIN number he discussed setting up your business with the Internal Revenue department to pay taxes.  Finally he discussed keeping track of your information and the importance of having a CPA help you setup your business and keep track of your finances to help you with correctly filing your taxes and insuring you don’t pay any unnecessary taxes.

The event was held via Zoom and after the presentation, the members of the audience were able to ask question.  Food was provided by the Entrepreneurship Council and was purchased from Kicking Chicken, a local food truck located in Dothan, Alabama.  The event was great, and the participants left knowing more than they came in with.  If you would like to attend a future event or would like to be a part of the Entrepreneurship Council, feel free to visit our site at www.entrepreneurshipcouncil.org or give us a call at (334) 655-0417.
